Why Coding Sits Next to Cooking
Breadth, not specialization, is what keeps curiosity alive at ages 4 to 10.
A child who spends an entire summer only writing code tends to burn out on code. A child who spends the same summer moving between AI and coding, robotics, cooking, art and pottery, music and choir, and sports and movement tends to come back the next year still curious.
The case for breadth
At Masterly Space, all six tracks run side by side. A camper who arrives obsessed with robotics might leave obsessed with the pottery wheel instead, and that’s not a failure of the robotics program — it’s the program working as designed. Kids this age are still figuring out what they’re drawn to, and a single-track camp forecloses that discovery before it happens.
There’s also a practical case for it. Kitchen science teaches measurement and cause-and-effect the same way a coding project does. Choir teaches the kind of close listening and timing that shows up later in collaborative work. None of the six tracks are filler around the technology programs — each one is pulling its own weight.
How the day is structured
A typical camp day blends a screen-based block with a hands-on one: cooking, art, music, or sport in the afternoon after a morning of coding or robotics. Full days run Monday to Friday, with before and after care available at all three of our Ontario locations.
